The Preparatory Department realizes the preparation of foreigners for study at Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University and other educational institutions. • Documents are accepted and contracts with organizations and individuals are closed throughout the year. • Period of study: September 1-June 30 • The University issues official invitations, which enable its students to obtain entry visas at Ukrainian embassies. • Student housing is provided in the Faculty's dormitory. In order to receive an official invitation for study, applicants are to submit the following information to the Faculty: given name and surname, birth date, passport number, and permanent address. In order to receive an entry visa,applicants must submit the following to the Ukrainian Embassy: • The original invitation. • A copy of the birth certificate certified by a notary public. • A transcript or copy of a transcript showing secondary education classes and grades with notary public certification. • A medical certificate issued by the department of health in the student's country at least two months prior to the student's arrival in Ukraine. • Certification that the student is HIV-negative. • A return plane ticket with an open date back to the student's home country valid for up to one year. • 12 6x4 cm photographs. Incoming students are to inform the Preparatory Faculty of their arrival date and flight or train number no later than three days prior to arrival.
Upon arrival in Ukraine, students must without delay (within 48 hours)submit their documents (passport, transcript, health information, and photographs) to the Faculty. They will then be registered at the Preparatory Faculty and with the police. At that time, students also purchase insurance policies for emergency medical service.
The Preparatory Faculty's program is structured to prepare students to study in technical, natural science, biological, medical, agricultural, economic, and social science fields (including music, visual arts, and dance).
Students may select either Russian or Ukrainian as their target language (in which they will later continue their studies).At Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University, instruction is in Ukrainian.
At the Preparatory Faculty, students study in the general field of the planned major:
Engineering, Technology, and Natural Sciences-language (Ukrainian or Russian, according to the student's choice), mathematics, physics, chemistry, drawing, area studies, computer information systems.
Medicine, Biology, and Agriculture-language (Ukrainian or Russian), biology, physics, chemistry, area studies, computer information systems.
Economics-language (Ukrainian or Russian), mathematics, geography, fundamentals of economics, area studies, computer information systems.
Humanities and Social Sciences-language (Ukrainian or Russian), literature, geography, area studies, computer information systems.
Study at the Preparatory Faculty in the humanities and social sciences area allows students to major in international relations, international law, and international information at the Institute of International Relations or to study at the at the Institute of Journalism or faculties of history, philology, philosophy, law, sociology, and psychology of Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University, and also at other institutions of higher learning in the social sciences and humanities.
After studying economics at the Preparatory Faculty, students can study international economic relations at the Institute of International Relations, at the Economic Faculty of Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University, or at other schools of economics.
After studying medicine, biology, and agriculture at the Preparatory Faculty, students can study at the Faculty of Biology of Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University or other biological, medical, or agricultural schools.
After studying engineering and technology or natural sciences at the Preparatory Faculty, students may study at the Faculties of Radiophysics, Physics, Math and Mechanics, Cybernetics, Chemistry, Geography, and Geology of Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University or other engineering, technology, and natural sciences schools.
Graduates of the Preparatory Faculty receive a certificate which grants them the right to enter any educational institution in Ukraine without taking the entrance exams. The admission procedure includes only and interview, contract, and payment.
