Donetsk - a city (since 1917) in Ukraine, administrative centre of Donetskaya area. The name "Donetsk", has got from name of the river Severskiy Donets, which runs on north of Donetsk area.

For present-day  in Donetsk the are  254 monuments of the cultural heritage. In city are located 11 movie-theatres, 53 Palaces of the culture and clubs, 368 libraries with fund over 15 522 662 books, 16  specialized educational institutions of art.In Donersk are found 140 muses and museum rooms. Amongst them are two large state regional museums: Donetskiy  artistic museum and Donetskiy regional  museum.

Except state museums, there is museum created by enterprises and organizations of the city. Amongst them: Museum to histories and developments of Donetsk railway, created by Donetsk railway derartment; The Museum of communication, created by centre of technical usage to local telephony OAO "Ukrtelekom"; The Museum of the jewish heritage of Donbass, created by Donetsk jewish communal centre; The Museum to histories DMZ, created Donetsk metallurgical plant and others. With power of enthusiasts the public museums are being created. Amongst them "Donbass unsubdued ". The museum rooms are being created in schools.
