The largest city of Ukraine (2639 thous. inhabitants, 5.5% population of the country), falling into group of ten most largest cities in Europe. The enormous territory of the city (more than 800 sq.km) is divided into 10 regions, 7 from which are found in old (right bank) part of the city.
The climate sparingly continental, with comparatively soft in winter (the average temperature of the January -6 С) and warm summer (the average temperature of the July +19 С), with average rainfall 600 mms per annum. The city is located on flat bank of Dnipro in its average current.
In Kyiv there are 27 museams, 25 theatres and theatre-aspic (for instance National opera house of Ukraine n. T. Shevchenko, Kyiv municipal academic theatre of the opera and ballet for children and youth, National academic dramatic theatre n. I.FRANKO, National academic theatre of the russian drama n. Lesya Ukrainka, Theatre on Podil, Kyiv young academic theatre, Kyiv state academic theatre of the drama and comedies on left bank).Kyiv is rich with monuments of culture and art. The most important of them are: Golden gates, Sofiyskiy cathedral (XI s.), Vydubickiy priory (XI s.), complex of the buildings Kyiv-Pecherskaya laurel (XI-XVIII ss.), Mihaylovskiy Zlatoverhiy priory, church Rescue on Birch bark (XII s.), barocco Voskresenskaya, Andreevskaya, Pokrovskaya, Troickaya churches, painted by Mihail A. Vrubel Vladimirskiy cathedral (ХIХs), Klovskiy and Mariinskiy palace.
The woods, parks and gardens occupy more than half of it’s area. Two botanical gardens are found on the territory of the city.Kyiv has a nameof one of the most green cities of the world (but used to be considered the most green). Famous kyiv chestnuts, whic luxurious bloom at May, but sometimes and biannually: springtime and autumn, became one of the symbols of the city.Large cinemas: "Zhovten", "Kiev", "Ukraine", "Butterfly", «Kiev Rus», « Cinema Line», «Mulitipleks».
