The area of Ukraine - 603,7 thous.sq. km, extent of the borders 6500 km (1050 km - sea).
Extent: from west to east - 1316 km, from north to south - 893 km.
The extreme points: on north village Petrovka (Chernigovskaya area), in the south - a cape Sarych ( Autonomous Republic of Crimea), west - a city Chop (Zakarpatskaya area), in the east - a village Red Star (Luganskaya area).
The nearby countries (on land): Romania, Moldova - on south-west, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland - west, Belorussia - on north, Russia - on northeast and east of Ukraine.
Big part of surfaces of the country is located within East-European plain (95 % area), on which within Ukraine are located: On lowlands: Polesskaya - on north, Pridneprovskaya - in the centre of the country, Prichernomorskaya - in the south; On eminences: Volynskaya, Podoliskaya, Pridneprovskaya, Tovtry - west, Slovechansko-Ovruchskiy ridge - on north, Doneckiy ridge and Priazovskaya eminence - on southeast;Small part of country is occupied by the mountains (5 % area): Ukrainian Carpathians (the height up to 2061 m) - on south-west and Crimean mountains - in the south Crimean peninsula.
The climate basically sparingly-continenta, on south coast Crimea is subtropical like.The annual rainfall: plain - 300-700 mms, Crimean mountains - 1000-1200 mms, Ukrainian Carpathians - over 1500 mm. Average temperature of the air: January -5 C, July +20 C.
